Measurement Capabilities

A number of apparatuses are available for the measurement of thermophysical properties over wide ranges of temperature and pressure. Most properties can be measured at temperatures between 200K and 750K and pressures up to 5000 psia (34.5MPa). The equipment includes the following:
  1. several hot wire reference cells for the measurement of the thermal conductivity of a wide range of materials including electrolyte solutions
  2. a capillary viscometer and a rolling ball viscometer for the measurement of viscosity in the range of 0.05 cP to I 00 cP for both liquids and dense gases
  3. a calorimeter for the measurement of heat capacities of liquids
  4. a high pressure pycnometer and a high pressure vibrating tube densitometer for the measurement of densities of liquids and gases
  5. a low pressure densitometer for the measurement of density of liquids
  6. several high pressure equilibrium cells for the measurement of solubilities of solids and liquids in dense fluids
  7. an equilibrium still for the measurement of vapor liquid equilbria at low pressures
  8. two novel apparatuses for the measurement of critical properties of thermally unstable materials
These apparatuses are being continually modified and upgraded and, in addition, new equipment will be added when needed.
