This deals with a problem accessing parts of a Yahoo! Club. If you are able to
successfully log into a Yahoo! Club, but get kicked out with a message like
"Club Unknown"
when you click on chat, then your company probably have a firewall in place
with certain transfer ports closed. This is an old security measure that many
companies are updating which limits certain Java applications in terms of
what type of data they receive and send.
What can you do about it? Not a whole lot. You can ask some of the web heads in your
department if they have problems accessing Java apps on the web or descretely ask your
IT department if they could set up the firewall so that you could set up a room for your
company in which you could talk to clients(that front actually works sometimes). Another
solution is to have a personal dial-up account through an ISP like Mindspring(tell them
you were referred by pococ@mindspring.com or www.ioni.com), World Net or MCI WorldCom.
These dial-up accounts are usually wide open and allow about anything you can think of
to get yourself into trouble.
If you find any other suggestions, drop me a line at webboy@ioni.com.
